Reiki background with hands silhouetteReiki (pronounced RAY-key) is a healing technique that was re-discovered in Japan by Mikao Usui in the early 1900s. Reiki is classified as an holistic energy healing modality because it’s used to increase the flow of energy throughout the body and to balance the body’s energy centers (chakras). When our energy is depleted, imbalanced, or restricted by stress, injury, or illness, we are more susceptible to discomfort, further illness, and disease. When our energy is high or balanced, we’re more likely to feel relaxed and our body’s own innate healing abilities can be used for healing.

Reiki still isn’t widely known (nor is energy healing, for that matter), but it’s been around long enough to have been the subject of much research that documents its effectiveness and benefits – enough that a number of hospitals around the U.S. integrate it, or at least offer it, as a component of many treatment plans. It’s proven beneficial forGentle Healing Words

What happens in a Reiki Session?

Attractive young woman having reiki healing treatment , alternative medicine concept.Reiki is a “hands-on” technique. Unlike massage, the touch is light and at times the work is done an inch or two off the body (another difference is that the client always remains fully clothed).  The client lays on a Reiki table (they look amazingly like massage tables) while the practitioner starts with her or his hands under the client’s shoulders. The practitioner then follows the chakras and energy fields around the body to sense energy depletion, to work on blockages, and to transfer energy as needed.

At Teaology we do this in and with prayer, always trying to be open and attentive to God. When requested, we can add guided meditation to help you identify areas of pain, gain clarity, understand issues, work through a decision, or redirect your energy to find resolution (just ask for a Body Therapy Session when you schedule your appointment).

Balancing the heart and third chakraResponses to Reiki vary from person to person. Some of us get very warm while others of us feel cool and prefer to be covered with a sheet or blanket. Some people feel a gentle tingling, and some will experience the twitch of a finger or leg.  It’s not uncommon for people to become so relaxed they fall asleep and those of us who experience emotional release during a session sometimes shed a tear or even cry. We hear words like peaceful and satisfied. And it’s been reported that those who receive Reiki in the later stages of  their life on Earth experience smoother transitions into the remainder of Eternity.

How long an appointment should I schedule?

The half-hour Sessions are designed for those who’ve never had a Reiki Session before and for those who need a quick “energy boost” or spot treatment. Appointments longer than thirty minutes provide the time to process your experience, answer any questions you may have, and share anything we may have intuited during the session.
